He started this tradition in the early 1980s wanting members and sponsors to know that the BCHSRA didn’t only build top rodeo athletes, but also valued academic success. Reel Cowboys Inc., Dave Leader Scholarship $500.00 Dave is an alumni from high school rodeo who graduated in 1983. Dave sponsored scholarships to give up coming BCHSRA graduates a chance to pursue post secondary education and their dreams. Recipient: Bobbi Collins, Clinton 8. Dr. David Ciriani $500.00 This is a third - time scholarship donated by Dr. Ciariani who practices dentisty in Kamloops who encourages western heritage to youth Recipient: Reah Argent, Groundbirch 9. Kamloops Outdoor Pro Rodeo Grants (boy and girl) 2 @ $500.00 This scholarship started when the Kamloops Outdoor Rodeo Committee came into being in 2001. Recipients: Reid Lozier, 150 Mile House and Kristen Janzen, Chilliwack 10. Copper Creek Ranch $1000.00 A first time scholarship. Recipient: Courtney Mailhot 11. BCHSRA Bursary $1000.00 The money for this scholarship is made at the silent auction held during the Merritt High School Regional Rodeo. Recipient: Reah Argent Memorial Scholarships 12. Kamloops Indoor Pro Rodeo – In Memory of Raymond Kerr 2 @$250.00 Recipients: Courtney Mailhot, Big Lake and Virgil Poffenroth, Riske Creek 13. Tex Ostrander Memorial Scholarship $250.00 This scholarship is in memory of a BCHSRA bull riding champion, Tex. Tex’s family sponsors this scholarship and an event scholarship annually. Recipient: Reid Lozier, 150 Mile House 14. Peter Bolster Memorial Scholarship $300.00 & jacket Peter was an outstanding rodeo athlete. He competed in team roping, saddle bronc and calf roping. Peter represented BC at the Canadians and Nationals for 4 years. Peter passed away suddenly in May 2002. His family cherishes the many awards and pictures of Peter in his high school rodeo years. Recipient: Ryland DeRose 15. Frankie Kerr Memorial 2 buckles Frankie was a long time volunteer for high school rodeos even before BC had national status. These coveted buckles have been awarded to a boy and girl who have contributed to the association since 1975. Recipients: Chelsea Moore, Pouce Coupe and Reid Lozier, 150 Mile House 16. Raymond Kerr Memorial Scholarship $750.00 Scholarship recipients must demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to help. Raymond believed that rewarding effort and enthusiasm was the best way to keep students positive. Recipient: Kristen Janzen, Chilliwack 17. Greta Ann Garthwaite Memorial Scholarship $1000.00 The recipient of the Greta Ann Memorial Scholarship had to demonstrate qualities that Greta lived and expected of her children and grandchildren. They needed to be a dedicated and caring horseperson; sportsmanlike; and want for a future in the agriculture industry. Recipient: Jessica Hatch, Kelowna 18. Lynn Mobbs Memorial Scholarship $1000.00 Criteria: Lynn is a former BCHSRA member who devoted her life to helping young people learn the sport of rodeo. Lynn passed away last year after a lengthy battle with Breast Cancer that she fought valiantly. The winner of this award must show the same passion, tenacity, and enthusiasm that were Lynn’s qualities. Recipient: Chelsea Moore |
